The Ankara Bar Association and Kaos GL Association organized a panel in the Ankara Bar Association’s Education Center on “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Equality in the Constitution” on 29 November 2013.

The panel was moderated by Gökhan Candoğan, a member of the the Ankara Bar Association Administration. Constitutional Court member Professor Engin Yıldırım and Kaos GL Association’s attorney Hayriye Kara participated as speakers.

The Constitutional Reconciliation Commission’s 25-month work has finally ended. The “colorful” bickerings of the Parliamentarians regarding education in native language, citizenship, the characteristics of the Republic, rights of sovereignty, general morality, honor, gay marriage, and FEMEN have been documented in the records. Rıza Türmen: “A Milestone in the Turkish State’s Constitutionalism”

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Parliamentarian Rıza Türmen- member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey’s Constitutional Reconciliation Commission- assessed the “Draft Process of the New Constitution and LGBT People” for Kaos GL.

In a special assessment to Kaos GL, CHP İzmir Parliamentarian and former European Court of Human Rights judge Rıza Türmen argues that the recognition of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity at a constitutional level “even if it is in the preamble” is a significant gain for the LGBT.
